Religion is important to the Faroese and plays a role in most people's lives.

About 80 % of the population belong to the national church, 10 % to the open Brethren community (Plymuth Brethren, in Faroese: Brøðrasamkoman) and the rest belong to various other religious communities – most of them Christian.
